Baseline Study of MHPSS issues of Afghan Refugees & Host Communities

A comprehensive qualitative study of Mental and Psychosocial needs of Afghan Refugees and Host Communities living in KhyberPakhtunlhwa (KP) Province of Pakistan.
The study entailed 42 Focus Group Discussions with women, men, community leaders (male and female), youth-male, youth-female and early teenage girls in addition to 76 In-depth Interviews with individuals from the sub-groups and explored MPHSS needs, social cohesion, resilience, GBV, domestic violence and issues pertaining to basic human needs.

Contracted with The Aga Khan University for a World Bank advisory to assess synergies and constraints within existing Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements for Government of Sindh, Pakistan's secondary hospitals and primary care centers (rural health centres, basic health units, maternal & child health centers), in the context of primary health care so as to enhance institutional capability for strategic purchasing.
PDI is leading the Governance component of the review and is assessing the contract management, monitoring and accountability aspects of the public-private partnership arrangements in Sindh, Pakistan.

Contracted with GFA Consulting Group for GIZ CESARE Project
The assignment aims at providing a synthesis of regulatory regimes in health and related social sectors in SADC within the context of Member States‘ health systems especially considering COVID-19, and to suggest recommendations for strengthening national and regional health systems in their ability to respond to ongoing health needs as well as crises and to enable increased trade liberalization through enhanced market access within the healthcare service industry.
PDI taught the Professional Certificate course in Strategic Health Planning for senior health professionals from around the globe including from Africa, Canada, the Caribbean, Australia and the United Kingdom. Approved by The Institute of Management and Leadership (ILM), the course run by International Centre for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) on Strategic Health Planning draws from decades of experience of the PDI team and was not only able to raise the knowledge of the learners but also enabled them to practically apply the learning on their own systems and services. The learners rated the course very highly.

PDI, in partnership with Health Services Academy (HSA), Pakistan,
won the contract for Integrated Bio-Behavioural Surveillance's
(IBBS) Round 6 in Pakistan. The study will undertake:
- Mapping and Size Estimation of key six key populations (PWIDs,
MSWs, MSMs, TGSWs, TGs, FSWs) in 31 districts, representing national picture;
- Estimate prevalence of HIV, HBV, HCV, and syphilis among each of the key populations in addition to incarcerated persons in the country.

Under a sub-contract with Itad, UK, PDI's Simon Azariah is the Team Leader for MOPAN Assessment of UNAIDS, for the Universalia and Itad consortium.
The Multilateral Organisation Performance Assessment Network (MOPAN) was launched in 2002 as a network of like-minded donor countries for monitoring the performance of multilateral development organisations at the country level. The Network’s assessments identify strengths and areas for improvement in the multilateral organisations. Findings are used for discussions with the organisations and with their partners, and as ways to further build the organisations’ capacity to be effective. Network members also use assessment findings as a source of input for strategic decision-making about their ways of engaging with the organisations, and as an information source when undertaking individual reviews.

in the health sector as well as familiarity with DAI’s expertise in global health and experience to:
1) support DAI in achieving a better contextual understanding of health system and sector; 2) Secure
key relevant meetings with Ministry of Health division’s/departments and key partners; 3) Review and analyse
the health sector/system for strengths and weaknesses ; and 4) Review DAI’s relevant experience and
capabilities and develop key successful themes and strategies.
